The Bucciriscu Calabrese has the same origin as the Cane Corso, but have developed slightly different traits in Calabria.
The breed has been used the same way as the Branchiero of Sicily, for guarding of the cattle.
The Bucciriscu has a rounder head and a wider muzzle than the common Cane Corso.
The size and weight are similar to the Cane Corso; males 64-68 cm. (25-27 in) and 45-50 kg. (99-110 lbs).
Some consider the Bucciriscu identical with the Vucciriscu of Sicily, but it is clear that it is closer to the Cane Corso.
The present situation of the Bucciriscu Calabrese is unknown at this time.
